Mission, Vision, and History

When individuals thrive, so do communities. It’s that simple.

We believe that underserved groups deserve our trust and that quality education—in its many forms—allows all individuals to participate in society.

That’s why we’ve concentrated much of our foundational giving on supporting young people and their educational needs, particularly improving access to education for students facing educational barriers.

Over time, we anticipate including other programmatic areas in our giving, because we deeply understand that individuals, children, and families are complex and need whole-person supports.

We trust our grantees and aren’t afraid of risk.

We envision a world where every individual thrives, and as a result, communities are strengthened. At the same time, we know our grantees are capable, caring, and bold. We trust them to propose the solutions that they think will best serve them and their communities.

We also recognize that new ideas can be a risk—and we are comfortable with that. Innovation comes from untried ideas. We aren’t afraid to be the first funder of a well-planned idea.

  • "At Cristo Rey, no one has ever taught that we should be content with doing something small…May we have faith in a dream so ambitious as to border on the delusional with a healthy disregard for conventional thinking. May our hope be so outrageously bold that we are afraid people will laugh at us if they knew what we hoped for."
